Spurs have nearly agreed a fee to sign £50m star

Injuries, eh? Where would Tottenham Hotspur be without them? Sure, there are deeper reasons for Spurs’ Premier League plight in the last two campaigns but the fitness of key players has not helped in the slightest.

Name a Tottenham player and it’s likely they spent a period on the sidelines.Thomas Frank missed Dominic Solanke for the vast majority of his tenure while the likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusveski did not play a single game under the Dane.

Maddison did ast least return to assist Roberto De Zerbi but Deki is simply nowhere to be seen. The situation surrounding the Swede becomes more and more worrying as the months go by.

Despite the return of Maddison, things did not get any easier for De Zerbi. Xavi Simons suffered the cruel blow of reputuring his ACL. He will now miss the next nine months of action at least.

So, it explains why Spurs are looking to strengthen their attacking ranks.

£60m star now pushing to sign for Spurs

It’s safe to say that the Lilywhites are taking no prisoners after finishing 17th in the Premier League for a consecutive year.

They have already made moves to prevent such an eventuality from occuring again, welcoming two new players to the club last week in the form of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and Andy Robertson from Liverpool.

The two players have seen their contracts with their respective clubs expire and will head to north London on free transfers. Not bad business, is it?

Still, some big-money additions could be on the cards with key target Jan Paul van Hecke at Brighton being valued at £70m. A deal is unlikely to happen at that price but Spurs are very keen having lodged an unsuccesful bid to prise him away from the Amex.

Spurs also hope to conclude a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho. The latest on that pursuit comes from the Mirror who report that the Brazilian is ‘ready to move to London’.

Valued at £50m, De Zerbi’s side, then led by Frank, wanted to sign the winger last summer but were unsuccessful in their endevours. This time, however, a deal looks far more likely to get done with it stated that Savinho wants to move clubs and will ‘push to get a deal done’.

Further reports from one trusted Spurs insider on Sunday said that a fee is ‘basically agreed’ and that only add-ons need to be sorted now so this move is beginning to progress quickly.

How Savinho compares to Kudus and Kulusevski

Can you imagine where Spurs would have been last season if their forward line regularly comprised of Kudus, Kulusevski, Maddison and Simons?

That is a menacing set of forward players who are all capable of not just influencing play from central areas on the pitch but also from out wide.

In 2025/26, they simply missed so much football and it’s hardly a surprise Spurs found themselves in a relegation battle when their best players were missing for such extended periods.

It’s why the signing of somebody like Savinho makes sense this summer but supporters are right to have their doubts, particularly for a £50m fee.

Indeed, the City forward is coming off the back of a season in which he scored just once all season. He only started seven Premier League games. It was a really wretched campaign for the 22-year-old.

That said, he’s still got some fine attributes. In 2024/25, he scored three times but assisted as many as 13 goals. In that regard, he’s like the aformentioned Kudus and Kulusevski.

Savinho

Since moving to England, the former has never been a particularly rampant goalscorer, netting eight times for West Ham United and Spurs. Kulusveski is similar in that regard, though he did find the net on ten occasions last season.

What links all three of these players together is their creativity. Spurs’ Swedish sensation registered as many as 11 assists in 2024/25 before his injury while Kudus managed five before his this season. That said, he was one of the most creative players in the squad, registering 1.3 key passes per match. Only Pedro Porro managed more in the squad with 1.6.

How does that compare to Savinho? Well, only Kevin De Bruyne (2.1) managed more key passes per game than the Brazil winger last season (1.6) at Manchester City. That’s pretty good going.

However, like Kudus, he is a dual threat. When it comes to taking players on, the City man is one of the best around.

While the Ghanaian has long been known for his ability to dazzle his way past defenders, he did only make 3.20 progressive carries per 90 compared to a mammoth 7.45 per 90 for Savinho, a statistic that places him in the top 1% of ball carriers when compared to wingers in Europe’s top five leagues.

So, despite initial doubts, this is a move that could actually be pretty game-changing for the Tottenham attack. He’s very creative like Kulusveski and Kudus while he’s not afraid to take on his man.
