Tottenham have been extremely busy in the early stages of the summer transfer window are now set to submit a new bid for a player Roberto De Zerbi personally admires, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have wasted no time securing new signings for their manager after he kept them in the Premier League last term, snapping up experienced top flight defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free deals.
Robertson led his Scotland side to a 1-0 victory in their opening World Cup fixture against Haiti on Saturday evening, while Senesi is part of an Argentina squad who will begin their title defence late on Tuesday evening against Algeria.
Spurs conceded 57 goals in the league last term – the most of any side who remained in the division – so it is no surprise to see strengthening the defence is the main priority this summer, and there could be even more changes yet.
Indeed, with Cristian Romero’s future still in doubt and exit links emerging over the futures of Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence, Brighton have now made a £30million bid to sign Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic.
The 19-year-old, who is viewed as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe, thrived last season on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga but is yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs since joining from Hajduk Split in 2023.
He has been named in coach Zlatko Dalic’s 26-man squad for the World Cup and could feature in the opening game against England next week.

Spurs are in discussions with Brighton over the sale of fellow central defender Jan Paul van Hecke with two bids having been rejected so far, and Romano has now shared the latest on the club’s plans to transform their backline.

According to Romano, Spurs are actively negotiating with Brighton after seeing two bids rejected for Van Hecke.
The reporter claims in his latest Youtube video that North London chiefs have not given up on their pursuit and are in talks over new and improved terms, with recent reports suggesting Brighton want £70m for their star man.
Romano also confirms that the 26 year-old Netherlands star is keen on the move, perhaps in part due to his connection with De Zerbi.
The Tottenham manager repeateadly heaped praise on the centre-back during their time at Brighton, highlighting his “incredible” attitude and leadership.
“It’s not common to see one young player with that level of personality.”
Van Hecke started 36 out of 38 Premier League games for the Seagulls last season, scoring three times and providing three assists.
