Tottenham weighing up on summer move for Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko

Tottenham Hotspur have made Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko one of their left-back targets for the summer transfer window.

Spurs are set to revamp their defensive unit after an injury-ravaged season. Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin, and Destiny Udogie have all spent time on the sidelines.

They signed centre-back Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens in January with a buy obligation at the end of the season. Romero and Van de Ven were injury-prone, so the Lilywhites could sign a new centre-back in the summer. In addition, they want a new left-back with Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri their No.1 target.

Tottenham are planning to make an opening bid of €35 million to Ait-Nouri, but Wolves value him around €50/60 million. Should they fail to land the Algerian international, Spurs have reportedly lined up Vitaliy Mykolenko as an alternative target.

Tottenham want Vitaliy Mykolenko

Mykolenko, 25, joined Everton from Dynamo Kyiv back in January 2022. The left-back has racked up 114 appearances for the Merseyside outfit thus far, netting three goals and assisting twice. He has played key roles in helping Everton beat relegation in the last two seasons.

Having established himself as a reliable player for the Toffees, the Ukraine international could be seeking new pastures as he enters the final year of his contract. Mykolenko would harbour hopes of playing in Europe and challenging for trophies rather than fighting relegation battles with Everton. This makes a potential move to Spurs enticing.

Spurs are set to lose both Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies this summer following the expiration of their contracts, leaving Ange Postecoglou with only Destiny Udogie. Therefore, Tottenham are interested in recruiting a new left-back, and someone like Mykolenko fits the bill perfectly.

Premier League proven and perhaps set to enter his prime, the Everton man would fit Ange Postecoglou’s attacking, high-pressing system. Even though his numbers at Goodison Park doesn’t make a good reading for an attacking left-back, Mykolenko could be a good option to cover and compete with Udogie for a spot in the XI next season.

Add to the fact that Tottenham could get his signature at a bargain price this summer. So, if Ait-Nouri is not attainable, the North Londoners must not hesitate to go for Mykolenko to bolster their defensive ranks.
