West Brom now in contact to hire Tony Mowbray; he could sign a short-term deal

West Bromwich Albion are now in contact to hire an experienced Championship manager to replace Eric Ramsay for the rest of the season.

West Brom in talks to hire Ramsay replacement

Almost everyone at the Hawthorns knew that they were in trouble as soon as Norwich City struck five past Ramsay’s West Brom side in just his second game in charge.

From there, things didn’t look like improving and the end was, indeed, inevitable for the Welshman. For the second time this season, the Baggies failed to hit the jackpot when gambling on a young manager.

So, what next? Do they make it a third time lucky? Or is it time to turn to experience? Recent reports have claimed that those in the Midlands could look towards the perfect mix in Will Still.

The former Southampton manager may have struggled at St Mary’s, but he still has enough credit in the bank from impressive spells in France to attract clubs like West Brom.

But he’s not the only option that the Baggies are reportedly eyeing. There could still be a route back to the club for Carlos Corberan just under two years since he left for Valencia.

Of course, at the time of the Spaniard’s exit, West Brom were seventh and in the race to secure a playoff place for the second season in a row. Now, he would be returning to a club staring down the barrel of shock relegation.

There is also a call for experience and that could see another former manager return. According to Football Insider, West Brom are now in preliminary talks to hire Tony Mowbray for the rest of the season, which would commence his third stint in charge.

Experienced Mowbray would take West Brom to safety

Now is not the time for West Brom to experiment. They simply have to get their next appointment right and that’s why Mowbray makes so much sense. He has quite literally been there and done it at the Hawthorns. Twice, in fact.

This manager is reportedly considering whether or not to take the vacant West Brom job.

During his last stint – coming just last season – the veteran manager never had the Baggies concerned about relegation, but he also failed to match their playoff ambitions.

Eventually, the club relieved him of his duties as a result. Now, with those ambitions long behind them, West Brom need a manager who will put results first.

Mowbray is one of the most proven managers around the EFL. With 195 wins in the Championship to his name, the 62-year-old could work his magic to drag West Brom to safety before making way for a long-term option in the summer.
