West Ham secured a dramatic FA Cup victory over Brentford after a captivating 2-2 draw led to a penalty shootout at the London Stadium. Konstantinos Mavropanos scored the decisive spot-kick to send the Hammers through.

West Ham advanced in the FA Cup after a pulsating tie against Brentford at the London Stadium. The Hammers secured a dramatic 5-4 victory in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of captivating football.

Both London rivals entered this FA Cup encounter aiming for a deep run in the prestigious competition. West Ham sought to leverage their home advantage. Brentford, meanwhile, looked to overcome their opponents and progress to the next round.

West Ham started with intent, and Jarrod Bowen gave them the lead in the 19th minute. Bowen deftly guided a well-placed finish past Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The early goal electrified the home crowd at the London Stadium.

Brentford responded swiftly, pushing forward for an equalizer. Igor Thiago leveled the score in the 28th minute. He powerfully struck home an assist from Nathan Collins, silencing the West Ham faithful.

The back-and-forth action continued at a high pace. Just six minutes later, West Ham earned a penalty. Bowen stepped up confidently and converted the spot-kick in the 34th minute, restoring West Ham’s narrow advantage before the interval.

The thrilling first half, featuring three goals, promised more drama. Brentford needed to find another equalizer to stay in the competition. West Ham, meanwhile, aimed to consolidate their lead and control the tempo.

The second half saw both teams battle fiercely for control of the midfield. West Ham made changes, with Adama Traoré and Oliver Scarles entering the fray after the break. Brentford’s Yehor Yarmolyuk also joined the action in the 63rd minute.

As time dwindled, Brentford intensified their pressure, searching for a late goal. Their persistence paid off in the 81st minute. Igor Thiago once again found the net from the penalty spot, converting to make it 2-2.

The equalizer forced the match into extra time, prolonging the tension. Despite numerous substitutions and tired legs, neither side could find a winning goal. The intense cup tie concluded with a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

The match statistics reflected the evenly contested nature of the game. West Ham registered 18 total shots, with 5 on target. Brentford managed 17 total shots, with 6 finding the target. West Ham edged possession with 51%, showcasing a finely balanced contest.

West Ham emerged victorious from the shootout, converting all five of their penalties. Konstantinos Mavropanos sealed the win after Brentford’s Dango Ouattara missed his attempt. The Hammers now progress deeper into the FA Cup.
