Woltemade stuns Chelsea inside five minutes

Newcastle have taken the lead within five minutes at St James’ Park against Chelsea, courtesy of Nick Woltemade.

Fans were expecting another fast start in the Premier League from the Magpies, and the players delivered exactly that.

In their first meaningful attack of the afternoon, the ball was played out wide to Jacob Murphy, who delivered a dangerous cross into the box.

It was met by Anthony Gordon, who looked destined to score himself, but for a stunning Aaron Ramsdale save.

However, Woltemade was on hand to bury the rebound, to the delight of the Geordie faithful.

Chelsea wanted a foul in the build up to the goal after a coming together between the goal scorer and Malo Gusto, but there was no foul called after a VAR check.

You can keep up with full commentary of the game here.

How to watch Newcastle v Chelsea: TV and online stream

Newcastle v Chelsea kicks off at 12:30pm UK time. It will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1. The game can be streamed via Discovery Plus and, for Sky customers with a TNT package, on the Sky Go app.

Stats for Newcastle v Chelsea

Newcastle have won their last three Premier League home games against Chelsea, last winning more consecutively against them at St James’ Park between 1994 and 1998 (4).

Chelsea lost 2-0 at Newcastle in their last Premier League game against them but have not failed to score in consecutive league meetings with the Magpies since February 1933.

Thirty-seven of the 60 Premier League games between Newcastle and Chelsea have been won by the hosts side, the most home wins of any fixture in the competition’s history.

Newcastle have conceded in each of their last nine Premier League games. They have never gone 10 in a row without a clean sheet under Eddie Howe before, last doing so with a run of 14 between August and November 2021 under Steve Bruce (8 games), Graeme Jones (3) and Howe (3).

No side have kept more clean sheets than Chelsea in the Premier League this season (8, level with Arsenal), with the Blues keeping a shutout in five of their last seven league games.

Chelsea have kept four clean sheets in their last five away Premier League matches, losing 3-1 to Leeds United at Elland Road in the other game. They had only kept five clean sheets in their 38 away games beforehand.
