Rory McIlroy WITB 2025: Inside The Bag That Won The Career Grand Slam

It’s not the clubs, it’s the player… right?

In this case, it’s the player, his clubs, and his mindset.

Rory McIlroy has been in the position to win the career Grand Slam before, but he finally pulled it off this time. If you’ve been following Rory closely, you know there have been a few changes to his setup this season. He’s gone back and forth between the Qi10 and Qi35, and a golf ball switch seems to have played a big role in his success.

Here’s what Rory McIlroy had in the bag on Masters Sunday.

Rory McIlroy WITB: At a glance

TaylorMade Qi10 9.0° Driver

TaylorMade Qi10 15.0° 3-Wood

TaylorMade Qi10 18.0° 5-Wood

TaylorMade P·760 4-Iron

TaylorMade Rors Proto 5-9 Irons

TaylorMade MG4 46°, 50°, 54° SB Wedge

TaylorMade MG4 60° LB Wedge (bent to 61°)

TaylorMade TP5 Golf Ball

Driver

Model: TaylorMade Qi10 9.0°

Shaft: Ventus Black 6X

At the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rory used the TaylorMade Qi35 for three rounds and then went back to the Qi10 for the final round. He has left it in the bag since, and it’s paid off.

Fairway Woods

3-Wood: TaylorMade Qi10 15.0° (Ventus Black 8X)

5-Wood: TaylorMade Qi10 18.0° (Ventus Black 9X)

Not all golf professionals match their fairway woods and driver, but Rory keeps things consistent. The 3-wood and 5-wood also have the Ventus Black shaft. The difference between the shafts in the 3-wood and 5-wood is weight, with the 5-wood being a little heavier.

The heavier shaft helps promote a tighter shot shape and lower, more controlled flight. Rory has a high swing speed and needs to find a way to tune his ball flight.

Irons

4-Iron: TaylorMade P760 (Project X 7.0)

5-9 Irons: Rors Proto (Project X 7.0)

Rory’s iron play was a highlight all week at the 2025 Masters. In round three, he hit a 6-iron from 205 yards into the 15th hole to 6 feet for eagle. In the final round, he hit a 7-iron from 209 yards to set up another birdie on the same hole.

The Rors Proto irons are not available for the average consumer but the P760 has been around a few years. We tested it in 2019 and found the SpeedFoam technology led to some added forgiveness.

Wedges

Models: MG4 46° SB, 50° SB, 54° SB, 60° LB (Project X 6.5)

If you had to pick one club or one shot that sealed the green jacket for Rory, it might be the 50° wedge from 125 yards he hit on the first playoff hole. The shot was exactly what he needed at exactly the right time.

One thing to note: Rory’s 60° wedge was bent to 61° specifically for the Masters. While he typically keeps it at 60°, the adjustment helped it perform better off Augusta’s tight lies. TaylorMade’s Vice President of Tour Operations, Keith Sbarbaro, explained:

“The 61° wedge doesn’t catch in the grain and has low enough bounce to perform well on tight grass like in Augusta.”

Putter

Model: TaylorMade Spider Tour X Short Slant

If this putter looks familiar to you, that is not a surprise. This marks the fourth win in nine years by a player using a Spider putter. Even more impressive is that the Spider Tour X now has back-to-back Masters wins.

Golf Ball

Model: TP5

Customization: “RORS” printed via the MySymbol program

Rory switched to TP5 before his season debut, and it’s paid off big time. He felt like he had more control over the ball in the wind, and the overall spin was more consistent.

Rory also cited better performance on half- and three-quarter shots and more control with short irons and wedges.

Final thoughts

Rory made a few key tweaks to his bag just in time to pull off the Masters win he’s been chasing for years. He stuck with his trusted driver, switched to the TP5 golf ball, and adjusted his wedge setup for Augusta’s tight lies. Everything was geared toward control, flight, and performance under pressure. It all came together at exactly the right time.
