The Player’s Distance Iron I’d Buy To Gain Yards Without Losing Accuracy

Player’s distance irons are supposed to walk a pretty fine line.

You want more ball speed and carry distance than you’d get from a traditional player’s iron but you still want some feel, control and workability. That’s the whole appeal of the category.

The problem is that distance only helps if the misses stay playable. If an iron gives you three or four extra yards but costs you greens, dispersion or control, the tradeoff starts to look a little less exciting.

That’s what made the Mizuno Pro M-15 stand out when I went back through our 2026 player’s distance iron data.

How We Test

MyGolfSpy’s Most Wanted Testing is powered by:

Titleist Pro V1 golf balls are a key component in testing. Every shot hit in Most Wanted utilizes these golf balls. They have long been the gold standard in golf ball quality, and it is the only ball we trust to complete our Most Wanted testing.

Foresight GC Quad – Foresight is the gold standard in camera-based launch monitor technology because it produces data we can rely on with every shot hit.

The Indoor Golf Shop’s SIGPRO Premium – All of our testing is done indoors at our HQ in Yorktown, Va. With each test, our screens take an absolute beating. Thus, we need high-quality, durable impact screens to handle the workload. SIGPRO Premium exceeds our expectations.

UNRL Apparel – The official staff apparel partner of MyGolfSpy, we rely on UNRL to keep staff comfortable and focused at providing the world-class testing.

Why the Mizuno Pro M-15 stood out

The Mizuno Pro M-15 had one of the better distance-to-accuracy combinations in the test.

It finished with a 9.2 distance score and a 9.1 accuracy score.

Here’s how it compares to a few of the other 2026 player’s distance irons.

The PING i540 was the distance leader. It had a perfect 10.0 distance score and was the longest iron in our raw data, averaging 159.64 yards of carry. The Mizuno Pro M-15 averaged 156.12 yards so it gave up about 3.5 yards compared to the longest iron in the test.

Long is good. Long and hitting greens is better.

In addition to the green in regulation percentage, I also looked at straight shot percentage, shot area and proximity to see how the Mizuno stacks up. It may be a few yards shorter than the PING 540 but it hits 32.6 percent of greens compared to 28.7. The table below shows carry distance averages across the 5-iron, 7-iron and pitching wedge we tested.

The second-place iron is easy to overlook

The Wilson DYNAPWR Forged won the 2026 player’s distance iron test and it earned it. It had the better overall score, the better accuracy score and the edge in forgiveness. Wilson scored 9.3 in forgiveness compared to Mizuno’s 8.8 which tells us it was more consistent from shot to shot in things like ball speed, carry, spin and dispersion.

But second place can get overlooked in these tests and there is a real case to be made for the Mizuno Pro M-15.

The Mizuno Pro M-15 was the only model with both an accuracy score and a distance score above 9.0. If those two things could help your game, it’s worth a look.
