This New TaylorMade Driving Iron Might Be The Coolest Thing You’ll See All Year

I don’t know who at TaylorMade came up with the idea for this new P·UDI Bomber One driving iron but whoever you are, thank you for complicating my life.

After making nearly 65 years without even considering a 1-iron that looks sort of like a B-17 Flying Fortress, thanks to you, I now think I might want one.

Or maybe I don’t.

Like I said, it’s complicated.

TaylorMade has been killing it with limited-edition golf balls so far this year. This new limited-edition stick, however, might be one of the most creative and coolest releases of 2025. Depending on your stance on such things, it might also be the most divisive.

What is the TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One Iron?

The short answer? It’s a limited-edition version of TaylorMade’s current P·UDI utility iron.

The longer answer? It is a tribute to that person at TaylorMade who came up with the package. It’s that creative.

That first part is important. Much like COBRA’s limited-edition driver binge from earlier this year, the TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One is the same as the standard TaylorMade P·UDI 17-degree utility iron. Aside from the aesthetics (which we’ll get to) the biggest difference is that TaylorMade is labeling the P·UDI Bomber a 1-iron instead of a 2-iron.

Other than that, the construction, mass properties, technical specs and performance are the same. The difference, of course, is that someone decided to make the P·UDI Bomber One Iron to look like, well, a 1940s WWII-era bomber.

What in the name of the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy From Company B is going on here?

It’s cool, but …

One can justifiably argue that commemorating the end of WWII 80 years ago by paying homage to aircraft that dropped 3.4 million tons of bombs on Europe and Asia might be in poor taste. I guess it all depends on whether your ancestors were looking up or looking down when those bombs fell.

Tying together golf and weapons of mass destruction isn’t unusual, of course. We all remember the Callaway Big Bertha, named after a WWI German howitzer. However, the connotation was oblique enough at the time that most golfers in 1991 likely didn’t make the connection. A few years later, Ben Hogan would dodge a major marketing bullet. In ’94, Hogan’s new owners considered launching a new iron set called “The Panzer.” The irons would proclaim explosive distance for the “inner tank commander in all of us.” Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and that horrible idea never saw the light of day.

So, yeah, the TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One might not be for everyone. Then again, it’s not unusual for golfers to refer to their distance clubs as bombers or rocket launchers.

Regardless, the military aircraft aesthetic on the P·UDI Bomber One is well done. Between the riveted panel look, the grinning bomb icon and the vintage ‘40s script One on the toe, it’s some of TaylorMade’s best custom work.

The headcover, however, is otherworldly. It looks like something Spencer Tracy or Van Johnson would have worn in Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.

TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One Iron: Specs, price and availability

The TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One Iron is available in a 17-degree model only. It features a custom Golf Pride Victory grip in black and copper as well as a limited-edition UST Recoil Dart “Bomber Edition” shaft. It’ll be available in a 90-gram S-flex and a 105-gram X-flex.

Sorry, lefties. It’s right-handed only.

It’s available starting today online and through select wholesalers.

The TaylorMade P·UDI Bomber One Iron sells for $299.99.
