Ice Wars, the explosive new combat sports league redefining ice fighting, has announced the signing of Boilermaker and former professional hockey player Alex Penner to a promotional contract.
Penner isn’t just another former pro athlete — he’s a union Boilermaker with over a decade in the skilled trades, representing the backbone of North America’s workforce. Ice Wars is proud to partner with Boilermaker Nation, standing behind the men and women who build, maintain, and power the infrastructure that keeps the world running.
As part of this partnership, Ice Wars will be offering exclusive discounts to Boilermakers and their families, reinforcing a shared culture built on toughness, brotherhood, and pride.
Standing 6’4”, 240 lbs., the Simcoe, Ontario native brings a rare combination of real-world grit and elite athletic experience to the Ice Wars heavyweight division. After a 17-year professional hockey career, Penner is a natural fit for the intensity of The Ice Box.

Penner’s decision to step into Ice Wars is rooted in both competition and purpose.
“I decided to step into Ice Wars for a few honest reasons,” said Penner. “I miss real competition — the pressure, the pain, and finding out who you are when everything’s on the line. Ice Wars brings that back.”
But for Penner, this moment is about more than fighting.
