A pair of former UFC champions met inside the boxing ring in Miami, Florida on Friday on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua undercard.
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley clashed inside the ring after long layoffs by both. Silva held the UFC 185-pound championship for seven years. He retired from MMA in 2020 and last boxed in October 2022, losing to Jake Paul via decision.
Woodley held the UFC welterweight crown for three years. He retired from MMA in March 2021. He made his boxing debut in December of that year, losing to Jake Paul via. split decision. He was knocked out by Paul in a rematch. They were the only two professional boxing bouts Woodley had before Friday.
Woodley inched forward as Silva circled on the outside. Woodley landing first with a right hand to the body. Silva’s output was low in the early going. Woodley continued to target the midsection of the Brazilian. Silva trapped Woodley in the corner briefly and landed a right hand. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Woodley.
Silva came out bouncing on his feet in the second and connected with a left hand. He pressured Woodley. Silva stepped in with a clean uppercut followed by a right hand that dropped Woodley. Woodley got to his feet but the referee waived off the fight.
At 50 years-old, Silva picked up a TKO win. The official time of the stoppage was 1:33 of the second round.
