UFC legend Anderson Silva has made it clear that he would be happy to see Islam Makhachev break his record of 16 straight wins in the promotion.

Right now, Islam Makhachev is highly regarded as one of the best fighters in all of mixed martial arts – and perhaps one of the best of all time. Alas, while he’s already achieved some impressive things throughout the course of his career, fans are interested to see what the 34-year-old can go on to accomplish at 170 pounds.

Islam Makhachev has made a name for himself as a well-rounded, dominating champion, and if he can win his next fight, he will become the first person in UFC history to win 17 bouts in a row, breaking the record that was previously held by Anderson Silva.

In a recent interview, Anderson Silva gave his thoughts on Islam Makhachev’s rise to prominence, as well as his current interest levels in the sport of MMA.

Anderson Silva on Islam Makhachev matching his record

“Everything is possible,” Silva told MMA Junkie. “I’m happy because somebody broke this record, and the new generation in the future, the people will break this record again, again, again – this is good challenge for everybody when it comes.

“But I don’t think the people think about, ‘Oh, I go break this record, I go break this record.’ I think the people doing their job and when you see, ‘Oh, my God! Really? Yes, you broke the record! Oh, OK. Great.’”

“I spent my entire life watching MMA,” Silva said. “A student, my opponent, and watching MMA to see the movement I can make better, and for myself, I don’t watch anymore. … When I finished my career in MMA, I stopped watching because I don’t have to study anymore because I don’t fight MMA anymore. When I started my career in MMA years ago, I just looking every single day, study every single day, MMA fight, MMA fight, MMA fight – I’m done.”
