Conor McGregor most recently appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he shared his thoughts on Ilia Topuria’s title loss.
The 37-year-old Justin Gaethje dog-walked and dismantled the Georgian-Spaniard this past weekend during their lightweight title unification clash at UFC Freedom 250. Topuria was pushing for an early finish to back up his prediction and made the mistake of staying inside Gaethje’s striking range. Taking advantage of the situation, “The Highlight” repeatedly made “El Matador” pay with his stiff jab.
After four grueling rounds, the damage had piled up on Topuria’s face to the point where he could barely see. Thus, his corner was forced to stop the fight. With that, the 29-year-old lost his 155-pound strap and his O.
Conor McGregor comments on Ilia Topuria’s first MMA loss, backs “El Matador” to bounce back strong
Conor McGregor says he had already predicted that Justin Gaethje was going to dethrone Ilia Topuria. During a sit-down with Ariel Helwani, “The Notorious” opined that Topuria is “good” but still has a lot to learn to become a complete fighter.
The Irishman suggested that “El Matador” should train with the toughest sparring partners possible. The former UFC double champ even added that there should be a bounty on Topuria to see if anyone could knock him out during sessions.
According to “The Notorious,” the more adversity a fighter faces in training, the better prepared they are to handle any situation inside during a bout. He said:
“I knew that was gonna happen to him [Topuria]. You need to get it put on you in the gym… He’s walking forward with the hands down on the opening bell, you’re gonna get walloped. He’s a bit flat footed, he’s not a full complete fighter. But he’s good. His face will have to heal, it’s smashed up. I’ve not been there before, I’ve only bled my blood once inside the octagon. He’s got banged up bad.”
Lastly, the 37-year-old added:
“It’s gonna be a dark place that he’s in right now. He’s gonna have to dig deep. Can he do it? I think he could… I wish him well.”

Conor McGregor, on the other hand, will return to the octagon after five years and will run it back with Max Holloway next month at UFC 329.
The Dubliner added during the same interview that if he gets past Holloway, he would love to throw down with Justin Gaethje or face his archrival’s protege, Islam Makhachev, who is the current P4P king and welterweight titleholder.
