Jon Jones has allegedly been involved in another controversial matter outside of the cage, as rumors surface of a new criminal charge hanging over his head.

On Saturday, June 21, Dana White announced that ‘Bones’ had relinquished his title and officially retired after 17 years in the sport. Shortly after the announcement, a report began circulating that suggests the Albuquerque native may be in trouble with the law once again.

As revealed hours ago, a misdemeanor charge is ongoing against Jon Jones, who reportedly fled the scene of an accident in February.

“Jon Jones is facing [a] misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident in February.”

“Police investigating a crash came across a woman in the front passenger seat of one of the cars, ‘exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.'”

“The woman reportedly said Jones was the driver, but fled the scene on foot… When a police officer then talked to Jones and said, ‘allusions to violence’ were made.” [h/t TheMacLife]

It didn’t take long for Jon Jones to respond to the news with a post on social media.

“Keep in mind, even the media can get it wrong sometimes if they don’t have all the facts,” Jones said in a statement on the X platform.

“Don’t believe everything you read online.”

Jon Jones’ troubled history with the law

This isn’t the first issue Jon Jones has had with the law during his time in the spotlight.

In 2011, Jones was detained in his hometown of Albuquerque for driving on a suspended license, though charges were later dropped. Just one year later, Jones was involved in an infamous DUI crash, foreshadowing what fans could expect from the controversial star in the future.

Arguably, his most unforgettable run-in with the law came back in 2015. Jones fled a hit-and-run that subsequently injured a pregnant woman, severely damaging his UFC career, as he was stripped of his light heavyweight title and suspended indefinitely.

A history of domestic violence and drug abuse has also clouded Jon Jones’ name, and his aforementioned criminal charge, dating back to February 2025, is the latest in a long list of infringements.
