Brooklyn Nets governor Joe Tsai was a recent guest on the All-In podcast. When asked about the Nets upcoming season, Tsai was candid about his team’s priorities.
“I have to say we’re in a rebuilding year,” Tsai said. “We spent all of our pick (in the 2025 NBA Draft). We had five first-round draft picks this past summer.”
Tsai went on further to say that having their own pick as their lone pick in the 2026 NBA Draft will determine how the Brooklyn approaches this season.
“We have one (first-round) pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick,” Tsai said. “So, you can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season. But we have a very young team.”
In 2027, the Houston Rockets have the right to swap picks with the Nets. From 2028 through 2032, Brooklyn either has their own picks, or has the most favorable of a group of picks through swaps that they control. The Nets also have future first-round picks incoming from the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers (through a most-favorable swap condition) and the Denver Nuggets.
