Jett Washington commits to Oregon football in a major recruiting win for the Ducks, adding a big name with a legendary bloodline. The nephew of NBA icon Kobe Bryant, Jett is one of the top defensive prospects in the country and will bring his elite talent to Eugene in 2026.

Athletic Bloodline Runs Deep

Jett Washington’s commitment means more than just another star signing — it’s a continuation of one of the most athletic family trees in America. His mother, Sharia Washington, is Kobe Bryant’s sister and a former standout volleyball player at Temple University. His father, Jerrod Washington, played running back at the University of Virginia and was drafted by the New England Patriots in 1994.

And of course, there’s Kobe. Jett grew up surrounded by greatness and has always carried that expectation. He’s taken that motivation to heart, carving out his own lane on the gridiron instead of the hardwood, but always with the Bryant mentality driving him forward.

High School Star at Bishop Gorman

Washington stars at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas — one of the premier athletic programs in the country. As a junior, he totaled 38 tackles, five interceptions, and consistently shut down opposing receivers. He also led the team in deflections and was a key voice in the locker room.

In addition to football, he’s also a champion on the basketball court. Jett helped Bishop Gorman win back-to-back Nevada Class 5A state titles, using his length and instincts to dominate as a two-sport athlete. That rare versatility makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2026 class.

Why He Chose Oregon

Jett chose Oregon over other big programs like Alabama, USC, and Ohio State. The deciding factor? His relationship with Oregon defensive backs coach Chris Hampton and the welcoming atmosphere in Eugene.

“Coach Hampton really made me feel like family,” Washington said. “The entire staff was honest, up front, and showed me a vision for my future both on and off the field.”

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 210 pounds, Jett brings rare size to the safety position. Oregon plans to use him as a hybrid defender — capable of dropping deep, covering tight ends, and helping in run support. Scouts already compare him to NFL stars like Kyle Hamilton and Derwin James.

Legacy of Kobe and Gianna

The memory of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna remains a guiding force in Jett’s life. He wears No. 2 in basketball to honor Gianna and often channels the Mamba Mentality in his preparation.

“Jett and Kobe were close,” said his father Jerrod. “Kobe wanted him to be great, but to do it his own way. Jett’s doing that now with football, but he still carries Kobe’s mindset with him every day.”

After the tragedy in 2020 that took Kobe and Gianna, Jett committed himself even harder to his training. Those who know him say his work ethic doubled — a direct reflection of how much his uncle meant to him.

What’s Next for Washington

Jett Washington is expected to enroll at Oregon next summer and could push for playing time as a true freshman. His physical tools are already elite, and with Oregon’s track record of developing NFL talent, he’s in a prime spot to succeed.

Whether it’s his instinct for the ball, leadership on the field, or the championship mindset he’s inherited, Jett is ready to write his own story. And if the early chapters are any indication, that story could end in the NFL — and maybe even stardom.

Oregon fans have every reason to be excited, given Jett Washington commits to Oregon football. They’re not just getting Kobe Bryant’s nephew — they’re getting one of the most dynamic football prospects in America.

Final Thoughts

In an era where athletic lineage matters more than ever, Jett Washington stands tall. With a family legacy in basketball, volleyball, and football, his commitment to Oregon represents the perfect blend of heritage and potential. Expect his name to make headlines again — this time for his own greatness.
