The Raptors 905 seem to have forgotten what a loss is.
Fresh off a perfect run in the NBA G League tip-off tournament, the Raptors 905 advanced to the Winter Showcase final after a tight 103-101 win over the Grand Rapids Gold on Sunday, bringing their record on the year to 16-0.
Jonathan Mogbo led the way with 21 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals while shooting nine-of-16 from the field.
His efforts were critical late, as the 24-year-old scored eight points in the fourth, including two buckets with 1:17 and 46 seconds left — both of which gave his team a one-point lead.
The dagger came from rookie Alijah Martin, who sank a layup over Gold big DaRon Holmes II with 16 seconds to go to give the Raptors a three-point lead. The former Florida Gator finished with 18 points, six rebounds, three blocks and a steal in the win.
Fellow rookie Chucky Hepburn had 14 points and 10 assists, and A.J. Lawson added 14 points of his own but struggled with efficiency, shooting three-for-12 from the field.
Despite losing the turnover battle 18-14 — a rarity this season — the 905 defence stayed steady, forcing the Gold to shoot only 41 per cent from the field. Guards Curtis Jones and James Akinjo combined to shoot 12-for-41 (29 per cent) from the field.
Holmes II — a second-year power forward — had the best night for the Gold, finishing with 19 points, four rebounds and eight assists.
The 905 await the winner of the game between the Stockton Kings and Salt Lake City Stars, which will take place later on Sunday. The final is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on Monday in Orlando, Fla.
