Toronto Raptors general manager Bobby Webster has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Masai Ujiri as team president, according to league insiders. Multiple sources indicated Webster is the preferred internal candidate as MLSE conducts its executive search through CAA Executive Search.
League insiders described Webster’s candidacy with the phrase “Bobby’s to lose” during conversations in Las Vegas. Webster is reportedly interested in the promotion and is well-regarded both within MLSE and across the NBA. His potential elevation explains why the search has also targeted lower-tier executives who would complement Webster’s leadership.
MLSE has conducted background work on Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley, a Brampton native with previous Raptors experience. Eversley served as assistant general manager under Bryan Colangelo and was instrumental in drafting DeMar DeRozan. He currently serves as a board member with Canada Basketball and maintains relationships with Webster and the organization.
Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan is also under consideration by the Raptors front office. Sources indicated MLSE finds Eversley’s Canadian ties and multi-team NBA experience particularly appealing for the role.
Former Raptors head coach Dwane Casey, now a Detroit Pistons executive, has met with MLSE president Keith Pelley regarding the position. Pelley has also interviewed former Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair, who was named 2022-23 NBA Executive of the Year before his April dismissal.
Kevin Pritchard represents perhaps the most intriguing external option for Toronto. The longtime Indiana Pacers president led the franchise to the NBA Finals in June and the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024. One league insider suggested Pritchard is MLSE’s preferred choice, though lateral moves involving contracted executives present additional complications compared to promotions.
