The Los Angeles Lakers got their spending spree going in a big way on Day 2 of free agency.
Grimes was signed to a four-year, $60 million deal, while Sexton agreed on a two-year, $19 million deal.
The moves for the guards followed a four-year, $52 million deal for former Toronto Raptors forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.
Grimes, 26, played well as a bench guard for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, averaging 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He upped his numbers when called as a starter, averaging 16.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists in his 19 games in the opening five.
Drafted by the Clippers 25th overall in 2021, Grimes has played in 318 games, split between the 76ers, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks.
Sexton, 27, had a productive 2025-26 season, averaging 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 68 games split between the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls. He was dealt to the Bulls ahead of the trade deadline in a deal that sent Coby White the other way.
Drafted eighth overall in 2018, Sexton is a career 38.9 per cent three-point shooter.
The Lakers also agreed to a sign-and-trade deal for Utah Jazz centre Walker Kessler on Wednesday, sending two first-round picks and two first-round pick swaps the other way.
