Phoenix Suns guard Vasilije Micic knows there’s been a lot of discussion about where he might play next season. That includes being linked to several different teams in Europe. However, Micic cautioned reading too much into that, because the Suns have a team option for him for next year.
“I really don’t know. The team still has an option on my contract. And that’s a serious clause in the NBA. All I know is that I want to play,” Micic said. “There are plenty of rumors. I don’t pay attention. When my friends send me a message. If I haven’t signed anything, I have nothing to talk about.”
The Suns acquired Micic from the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February. The 31-year-old point guard appeared in only five games with Phoenix after the trade. The Suns now hold an $8.1 million option for Micic for next season.
Declining the option for Micic could save the Suns considerable money in terms of salary and tax penalties. On the other hand, $8.1 million could be a valuable amount of money for Phoenix to use in potential in-season trades, given they are restricted as a second-apron team.
After a year of not playing much for the Hornets then Suns, Micic is looking forward to suiting up for Serbia at this summer’s EuroBasket tournament.
“Of course, I really want to play,” Micic said. “Last year was great for us, you always want to play. This year, we hope it’ll be even better. Someone’s always missing. If everyone shows up, it’ll be incredible. And hopefully even more successful.”
