Merrimack College went to the Junior College (JuCo) ranks to hire a new head coach, naming accomplished longtime Northern Essex Community College (NECC) coach Jeff Mejia the new skipper on Monday.
Mejia built NECC into one of the strongest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) programs in New England over the last 15 years, posting a combined record of 362-154 while advancing to the NJCAA World Series 10 times.
Mejia was recognized as the NJCAA New England Region XI Coach of the Year 11 times and NJCAA Northeast District Coach of the Year 10 times.
Former Merrimack College head coach Brian Murphy vacated the position earlier in June to explore an opportunity outside of baseball.
