Throughout his most formative years in Falmouth, Mass., Sam Cavossa didn’t have to look far for baseball inspiration.
Cavossa has the best of the best college players in the country come right to his hometown to compete in the Cape Cod League each summer. Once his own career advanced to Falmouth High School and then Winchendon School for a postgraduate year, he caught bullpens for his hometown Commodores.
“I’ve always been around (the Cape League),” said Cavossa, who went from a youngster seeking autographs to traveling with the Commodores, taking batting practice with the team and catching bullpens for multiple summers on his way to playing at Saint Michael’s College.
“It was a really good opportunity to see what the highest level is like,” he added. “Being around that (kind of talent) every day was very inspirational…and that’s kind of when I was like, ‘Alright, I want to play baseball in college.’ Those experiences were definitely a part of my journey.”
