The Baylor Bears have earned the commitment of one of the top basketball recruits in the country.
Previously committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels, five-star guard Dylan Mingo opened things back up when UNC fired Hubert Davis and soon thereafter hired Michael Malone.
Baylor head coach Scott Drew and his staff were on Mingo when he had originally committed to North Carolina, and they jumped on the opportunity to get back with him thanks to the opening created by the coaching change in Chapel Hill.
The end result was the Bears landing a commitment from Mingo, and Scott can take a lot of credit for that.
“Baylor has such a positive coaching staff, and it starts with Coach Drew,” Mingo said, according to Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi of ESPN. “Coach Drew and his staff are loyal and trustworthy people and coaches. Coach Drew is tough on his players and sticks with them during tough times. I loved my visit there. I am excited to go there. It is a very positive culture.”
It probably helped that Mingo had a pretty sizable connection to Baylor as well. His older brother, Kayden Mingo, transferred from Penn State to Baylor earlier in April.
“Playing with my brother Kayden is a big plus,” Mingo said. “It is a blessing to play with him again.”
