In a terrible twist, Gonzaga Bulldogs redshirt junior forward Braden Huff will be out 4-to-8 weeks with a left knee injury that he suffered yesterday at practice. This bombshell came out right before tonight’s matchup with the Washington State Cougars.
Huff will be seen on the bench with crutches by his side in Pullman. He will not require surgery.
The star in the frontcourt was averaging a team-leading 17.8 points per game on 66.2 shooting from the field, which ranks the sixth-highest in college basketball. He also grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game for the Zags.
With Huff out, this adds more pressure to graduate forward Graham Ike and will open up more minutes for seven-foot sophomore center Ismaila Diagne, with whom he banged knees at practice. This will also be impactful for senior wing Jalen Warley when coach Mark Few goes with a small lineup.
Hopefully, Huff will be back before the start of March Madness, possibly the West Coast Conference Tournament. There is always the chance that he won’t suit up for Gonzaga again this season. Heartbreaking. Get well soon, Braden.
