The Field of 68 crew set up shop in Lexington on Tuesday, broadcasting nearly two hours of live coverage from Kentucky men’s basketball practice. The national podcast network spoke with players and head coach Mark Pope, giving fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Wildcats just weeks before the season tips off.

One of the biggest themes of the afternoon was how different the program feels in year two under Pope. Guard Collin Chandler noted the smoother transition compared to last season, saying the team and staff are “locked in” without the distractions of an almost entirely new roster and coaching staff. Chandler also drew attention for his story about Kam Williams, who reportedly hit 10 straight threes during Monday’s practice.

Freshman Jasper Johnson discussed his offseason growth, sharing he’s up to 190 pounds after adding strength through Pope’s nutrition plan. Meanwhile, big man Brandon Garrison gave a lighter moment, opening up about fatherhood and his two-year-old son.

Point guard Jaland Lowe singled out Denzel Aberdeen as a breakout candidate, calling the former Florida guard’s recent play “incredible” and predicting a strong season ahead. Depth was a consistent talking point throughout the show, with multiple players suggesting Kentucky could go 13 deep, even mentioning having to platoon.

Injury updates were also part of the conversation. Preseason SEC Player of the Year Otega Oweh confirmed he’s been sidelined with turf toe but expects to return in two weeks. Freshman forward Jayden Quaintance is progressing in his recovery from knee surgery, with Pope stressing patience despite the 17-year-old exceeding rehab benchmarks.

Pope himself provided several memorable moments, from poking fun at Louisville coach Pat Kelsey to also confirming that he once had interest in the Arizona job back in 2021 before landing at Kentucky.

The live stream offered fans unfiltered practice footage, including shooting drills and scrimmage reps, and even having his big men work on ball-handling instead of traditional post play.

With optimism, depth, and plenty of storylines, the Field of 68 visit showed that the Kentucky team looks both confident and entertaining heading into the new season.
