After serving as the Michigan State men’s basketball head coach for more than 30 years with no sign of retirement, it’s safe to say that Tom Izzo is a permanent member of the Spartans family.
Now, the coach is mourning the loss of one of his beloved family members, his mother Dorothy Izzo, who has died at the age of 100.
According to her published obituary, Dorothy died on May 19 at Touchmark Senior Living in Appleton, Wisconsin. She had just turned 100 years old on May 13.
Dorothy was born and raised in Norway, Michigan, before moving to Iron Mountain, where Tom grew up. Dorothy received a nursing degree in Chicago and was hired as a practicing registered nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Iron Mountain.
