Mid-Major Madness has created a new wrinkle to the player of the week process this season. Instead of just simply naming a player of the week, we are incorporating a vote. We’ll narrow down the list to a handful of finalists, and you get to pick who the player of the week is.

Without further ado, here are the women’s nominees for the opening week of the season.

Meghan Andersen (Fairfield)

Andersen averaged 32.5 points per game in a pair of Stag wins. The junior from Wantagh, N.Y., poured in a career-high 35 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a season-opening win at Villanova. She followed it up with a career-best six 3-pointers for 30 points, six boards and four steals against Lehigh. She averaged 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, three steals and 1.5 blocks. Andersen shot 60% from the field and 57% from deep.

Kaemyn Bekemeier (Missouri State)

Bekemeier averaged 21 points and nine rebounds per game as Mo State went 2-0. The junior shot 61% from the floor. The Republic, Mo., native notched a career-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds in her first career start in a win over Saint Louis. She followed it with 19 points and another nine boards against UT Arlington.

Doogan amassed 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5.5 assists and one steal per game in a 1-1 week for the Spiders. She shot 54.5% from the floor, 38.5% from behind the arc and a perfect 9-of-9 at the free throw line. The forward from Broomall, Penn., tallied 28 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a season-opening win over Mount St. Mary’s. She then had 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a road loss to No. 4 Texas.

Roland averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds per game in a pair of Lady Rebel wins. The sophomore posted 17 points on 54% shooting and nine rebounds in a win over Washington State. The Fresno, Calif., native registered 18 points, 15 rebounds, a career-high five blocks, two assists and two steals in a victory over DePaul.

Zahirah Walton (George Mason)

Walton averaged 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 steals per game as the Patriots split their two games. The Seattle product secured a 31-point, 12-rebound double-double in an overtime loss at Temple. She compiled 22 points, seven rebounds and four steals in a win at James Madison.
