No. 14 Arkansas vs. Queens takeaways: Trevon Brazile’s hot streak continues

After earning a marquee victory over No. 19 Texas Tech on Saturday, No. 14 Arkansas (9-2) kept things rolling with a comfortable 108-80 win over Queens (5-7) at Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday.

Here are three takeaways from the Razorbacks’ blowout triumph.

Trevon Brazile stays hot

Brazile was arguably the hero of Arkansas’ win over the Red Raiders on Saturday, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 boards.

He picked up exactly where he left off in Tuesday’s game, scoring 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting. His nine made field goals are a career high.

Arkansas certainly wouldn’t mind seeing this version of Brazile show up against No. 8 Houston on Dec. 20.

Darius Acuff Jr. picks up slack for fellow freshman

Surprisingly, freshman guard Meleek Thomas struggled mightily on Tuesday. Thomas, who entered Tuesday averaging 16 points per game, scored only three on Tuesday (1-of-11 shooting) for what is his lowest scoring output at the collegiate level so far.

Thankfully for Arkansas, fellow freshman guard Darius Acuff Jr. picked up the slack, putting together a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists. Arkansas still has one of the best backcourts in the country, but it’s nice to see that when one member of the elite freshman duo struggles, the other is there to help.

Arkansas offense an unstoppable force

The Hogs lit up the scoreboard in Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday, hitting the century mark for the third time this season. Arkansas set a season high with 60 first-half points.

The Razorbacks shot 56 percent from the field, 50 percent from three and 81 percent from the foul line on Tuesday. A similar performance against Houston on Dec. 20 could give John Calipari’s squad another huge nonconference win.
