Two former UCLA Bruins file lawsuit against the NCAA over eligibility

Two former UCLA Bruins aren’t done with their college basketball careers just yet. On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported on Friday that Donovan Dent and Skyy Clark are two of 25 athletes filing a lawsuit against the NCAA, seeking eligibility for the 2026-2027 season.

Clark entered the transfer portal this offseason while seeking an additional college season while Dent announced his retirement. Now both players have filed a lawsuit in California with attorneys Darren Heitner and Ryan Downton in an effort to get back on the court this fall.

The lawsuit isn’t the first of its kind, with a similar lawsuit in Ohio being granted a preliminary injunction for 24 men’s and women’s who are also suing the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility.

The players believe that they’re missing out on a fifth year of eligibility, which is now the new normal, with athletes who played their fourth year of college, are not getting grandfathered into the new model, which gives players five years of eligibility.

Both Dent and Clark were big pieces for last year’s UCLA team. Dent scored 13.3 points per game, which was down from his mark of 20.4 as a junior with New Mexico. Clark scored 11.5 points per game and was an elite marksman, shooting 42.7% from three.

If the lawsuit goes the players’ way then a return to UCLA wouldn’t be out of the question for either player. Both Clark and Dent are Southern California natives and would bring a ton of experience to whichever locker room they join at the college level.
