Iowa football is losing its running backs coach to the Las Vegas Raiders.

CBS Sports and Hawkeye Insider’s Matt Zenitz and David Eickholt reported on Wednesday that Iowa running backs coach Omar Young is being hired by the Raiders as its new running backs coach under head coach Klint Kubiak, who just left Seattle to take over as the head coach in Las Vegas. It ends Young’s stay with the Hawkeyes after just one season.

In 2025, Iowa’s top running back was redshirt sophomore Kamari Moulton, who carried 170 times for 878 yards and five scores. Junior Jaziun Patterson also ran for 296 yards on 60 carries, redshirt freshman Xavier Williams rushed for 285 yards and three touchdowns on 49 carries and freshman Nathan McNeil totaled 169 rushing yards on 37 carries.

Iowa boasted the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line to pave the way for a Hawkeye rushing attack that was also bolstered by quarterback Mark Gronowski’s 545 rushing yards.

Young came to Iowa last season after multiple stints in the NFL. Prior to joining Iowa, Young spent 2024 as an offensive assistant working with the New England tight ends.

Young also served as an offensive assistant with the running backs for the Cleveland Browns in 2015, as an offensive quality control coach with the Green Bay Packers in 2017-18 and with the Chicago Bears in 2022-23 as an offensive quality control coach.

Young also served as South Carolina’s offensive analyst in 2016 and as Eastern Illinois’ running backs coach 2019-21.

With Young leaving for Las Vegas, it creates the second staff opening that Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz has needed to fill this offseason. The Hawkeyes promoted Chris Polizzi to special teams coordinator after LeVar Woods left to join Pat Fitzgerald’s Michigan State staff.
