Kiffin turns to Ole Miss assistant in attempt to land QB for LSU

Lane Kiffin’s infamous saga with the Ole Miss Rebels is far from done.

The head coach left the program for the LSU Tigers’ job just before the start of the playoffs, and he even gave his coaching staff an ultimatum to join him after being denied the chance to coach the team in the postseason.

Now, the conflict of interest remains. According to a report by On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos, he even had offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., who’s still with the Rebels through the playoffs, fly to Baton Rouge in the midst of the postseason to meet with his main target from the transfer portal.

Kiffin reportedly has his sights set on former Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby, and he wanted his offensive coordinator to help him recruit him.

Lane Kiffin wants Brendan Sorsby for LSU

“Sorsby arrived Friday night for a visit at Texas Tech, spending time with the coaching staff before departing Saturday night for LSU,” Nakos wrote. “Sources tell On3 that Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis spent Saturday with the Rebels prepping for the College Football Playoff semifinal and has now flown back to Baton Rouge to meet with Sorsby. It just shows how much attention and effort Kiffin is putting into Sorsby.”

Sorsby will reportedly make his decision in the early days of the following week, with Texas Tech as LSU’s main competitors for his services.

The Tigers lost starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to the NFL Draft, while Michael Van Buren Jr. entered the portal for the second consecutive season.

This is certainly a bizarre approach, but as questionable as it may be, that’s only going to keep happening for as long as programs are still allowed to pursue another team’s head coaches while the season is still ongoing.
