We’re less than five months away from the start of the 2025 college football season and the second year in the 12-team College Football Playoff format.
Ohio State won it all in 2024, going 10-2 in the regular season before winning the whole CFP as an at-large bid and decimating some of their foes along the way. As you might expect, they rank among the favorites to win it all in 2025 too.
The sports books over in Las Vegas certainly think so. But the Buckeyes aren’t the only team expected to dominate the regular season.
According to BetMGM data analyst John Ewing, nine teams are currently projected to win 9.5 wins or more in 2025, with four of those teams given odds to get 10.5 wins or more.
Ohio State, Big Ten champion Oregon, Big Ten runner-up Penn State and national championship runner-up Notre Dame have all been tipped to win 10.5 games this year.
SEC power Alabama, SEC champion Georgia, SEC runner-up Texas, ACC champion Clemson and the Tennessee Volunteers are all projected to get 9.5 wins in 2025.

Those numbers shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. The Buckeyes, Nittany Lions, Ducks and Fighting Irish all ranked among the cream of the crop last year and there’s no reason to believe they won’t continue to dominate in 2025.
The expectations on Georgia and Texas may seem a little bit lower given that they both won 11 games in the regular season. Though they both lost their starting quarterbacks from last year, so that could be influencing the way they’re viewed.

Clemson will probably meet those expectations while Tennessee only really have two games that they’re likely to be underdogs in all year.
As for Alabama, everyone is just holding their breath that the Crimson Tide can recover from the shame of last year’s 9-4 season and show some real growth under head coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama had a title-ready team last year and much of that team’s core has either graduated or gone to the NFL. This will be his team in 2025 and if they don’t do better than nine wins, DeBoer’s seat will start getting warm.
Who do you think are the best teams heading into next season of college football?
