Ohio State Buckeyes land first 2029 recruiting commitment

Ryan Day is one of the top recruiters in college football.

And yes, it’s probably easier to do as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes compared to being the head coach at Eastern Michigan, for example.

With that said, not only is Day putting together a solid effort on the 2027 recruiting trail, but he and the Buckeyes just picked up their first 2029 commitment.

That commitment came from wide receiver Austin Miller from Bellflower, California.

He received an offer from Ohio State after a visit in mid-June. He’s now decided to make his commitment to the Buckeyes.

This is even though he’s entering only his sophomore year of high school.

Will this commitment even hold? Who knows if Day will be the coach at Ohio State as the calendar flips over to 2030? The expectations are sky-high in Columbus, and he needs to keep winning championships to keep the pressure off him.

The rising sophomore does believe in the reputation of the Buckeyes, though, and that’s clearly why he committed.

Austin Miller, elite 2029 WR, commits to Ohio State aka WRU

“Whenever you talk wide receivers, it feels like Ohio State should always be in the mix,” Miller told 247Sports in March. “They’re arguably WRU.”

Miller has a point. From Jaxon Smith-Njigba to Marvin Harrison Jr. From Chris Olave to Garrett Wilson.

Those are just some of the recent names, too. Historically, OSU boasts wideouts like David Boston, Chris Carter, Terry Glenn, Santonio Holmes and Joey Galloway.

That’s not even to mention Jeremiah Smith.

Miller isn’t ranked yet because he’s so early on in the process, but he will undoubtedly be one of the top recruits in the 2019 class when all is said and done.

As a freshman for Bellflower High School, Miller caught 35 passes for 609 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 883 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

That’s 1,492 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns as a freshman, and that’ll play anywhere from Columbus to Tuscaloosa.
