These three teams each have important decisions to make under center, with each competition featuring talented young quarterbacks who could shape the future of their programs.
Alabama: Austin Mack vs. Keelon Russell
This is the premier quarterback battle in the SEC.
Mack enters camp with a clear advantage in experience, having spent multiple seasons in Kalen DeBoer’s offensive system dating back to Washington. Russell, meanwhile, was one of the nation’s top quarterback recruits and possesses the talent to become Alabama’s next star.
If the freshman proves he’s ready, the Crimson Tide should hand him the starting job and allow him to grow throughout the season.

Arkansas: AJ Hill vs. KJ Jackson
Arkansas is looking for its next quarterback after Taylen Green, and the Razorbacks have two promising options.
AJ Hill transferred from Memphis after arriving there as a highly regarded recruit, while KJ Jackson has the benefit of spending more time in the program. Both can lead the offense, but Hill has the higher ceiling.
If Arkansas is thinking about both the present and the future, Hill gives the Razorbacks their best opportunity to establish long-term stability at quarterback.

Tennessee: Faizon Brandon vs. George MacIntyre
Two elite quarterback recruits. One starting job.
Josh Heupel has one of the most fascinating quarterback decisions in the SEC. Both Brandon and MacIntyre were highly touted prospects, but Brandon entered college with as much hype as any quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class.
If Brandon shows he’s ready during camp, Tennessee should let him develop on the field. His talent and upside make him the best choice to lead the Volunteers into the future.
