Recently, we looked at the top 15 junior prospects coming out of Texas for the next recruiting cycle. How about those coming up behind them?
Texas is loaded with some incredible sophomore talent. Several of those prospects will likely end the 2027 cycle ranked inside the top 50, and some even potentially in the top 10.
Here are 10 of those names to keep an eye on…
Myson Johnson-Cook
School: DeSoto
Position: Athlete
Summary: At the rate he’s going, Johnson-Cook projects to be a top 5-15 player in the 2027 class. A two-way standout for the Eagles, he made the most of his game in the rushing department, accounting for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns on 88 carries.
Colton Nussmeier
School: Marcus (Flower Mound)
Position: Quarterback
Summary: In his first full season leading the Marauders, Nussmeier completed 59% of his passes for 1,894 yards and 16 touchdowns. A rising star in the 2027 class, he already holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, and several other Power Four programs.
Cooper Witten
School: Liberty Christian (Argyle)
Position: Safety
Summary: Cooper, the son of Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten, has found his strides on the defensive side of the ball. A safety holding numerous Power Four offers, Witten accounted for 45 tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions. He also put up numbers offensively, catching 15 passes for 263 yards and seven touchdowns.
Landen Williams-Callis
School: Randle (Richmond)
Position: Running Back
Summary: How many sophomores do you know about who rushed for over 2,000 yards last season? Williams-Callis can lay claim to that accolade. On 226 carries, he rushed for 2,108 yards and 42 touchdowns. He averaged 9.3 yards a carry and 131.8 yards a game. That’s why programs such as Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas have already offered the talented back.
Zane Rowe
School: Guyer (Little Elm)
Position: EDGE
Summary: On a loaded defensive front, Rowe still stood out for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder recorded 75 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 19 quarterback pressures, nine sacks and four forced fumbles. He holds over 30 offers already, so don’t be shocked to see the offer list push 50 or more.
Kavian Bryant
School: Westwood (Palestine)
Position: Quarterback
Summary: Bryant began his career at Westwood with a breakout freshman season and only got better during his sophomore year. Last season, he completed 82% of his passes for 2,442 yards and 34 touchdowns with three interceptions. A true dual-threat QB, Bryant also rushed for 709 yards and 11 touchdowns
Tay Ellis
School: Crowley (Fort Worth)
Position: Wide Receiver
Summary: When you lead your team in receiving as a sophomore, that means the future is only going to be brighter. Ellis did that for the Eagles, catching 55 passes for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 6-foot-0, 175-pounder holds nearly 30 offers, including nearly every Power Four program in the Lone Star state.
John Meredith III
School: Trinity (Euless)
Position: Cornerback
Summary: Meredith, standing at 6-foot-2.5 and 175 pounds, already looks like an SEC-caliber cornerback. College coaches have taken notice, and that’s why his offer list is already massive compared to other cornerbacks in his age range. His offers include Alabama, LSU, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.
Qua Ford
School: Texas High (Texarkana)
Position: Offensive Tackle
Summary: A massive sophomore, Ford stands in at 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, and is likely to continue growing over his final two seasons. Of his 10 offers, eight come from Power Four programs, including Alabama, SMU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
Trenton Yancey
School: Duncanville (Arlington)
Position: Wide Receiver
Summary: In a loaded wide receiver room headlined by five-star Oregon signee Dakorien Moore, Yancey was the Panthers’ fourth-leading receiver, catching 29 passes for 446 yards and seven touchdowns. Now that Moore is gone, he figures to fill that role and should see his stock rise even more over the next two seasons.
