Trinidad Chambliss on track to play in 2026 after big legal win

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss secured another big legal win on Friday that should allow him to maintain his eligibility for the 2026 season. It is huge news for a quarterback who should enter the season as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate on a team that should have legitimate national championship expectations.

Trinidad Chambliss gets another big win in court

Back in February, a court ruling had granted Chambliss a temporary injunction against the NCAA that was going to give him another year of eligibility and allow him to suit up for Ole Miss during the 2026 season.

The NCAA appealed that decision, with the Mississippi Supreme Court denying that appeal on Friday.

This should be the end of the legal fights and give Ole Miss its starting quarterback for the 2026 season.

Chambliss has already spent five years in college, playing three years at Ferris State and then the past two seasons at Ole Miss. In most normal situations, that would have been the end of his eligibility, and he would have had to either take a chance on the NFL or find his next profession.

Chambliss, however, argued that an illness he had during his time at Ferris State should have resulted in a medical redshirt that would give him a sixth year of eligibility.

The NCAA disagreed and rejected his attempt to stay at Ole Miss. That eventually resulted in the lawsuits.

But with Chambliss winning every step of the way, there may not be any other options for the NCAA to take at this point other than giving him his extra year of eligibility.

That will have major implications not only on Ole Miss, but also on the SEC and college football as a whole for the 2026 season.

Chambliss was one of the best quarterbacks and players in the country during the 2025 season, helping lead Ole Miss to one of the best seasons ever in the history of the program.

He threw for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions while also rushing for 527 yards and eight additional touchdowns. He helped lead Ole Miss to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, despite the program losing head coach Lane Kiffin before the playoffs began when he took the LSU head-coaching job.
