On Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Tulane’s Jon Sumrall is the new favorite to be Florida’s next head coach. Sumrall, who is 43 years old, has Tulane on the precipice of an AAC title game berth. The Green Wave will play Charlotte on Saturday night, and go to the AAC title game with a victory. Tulane would face North Texas with a win over the 49ers.
Thamel added that Sumrall is also in the mix for the Auburn job, but the Tigers have “shifted to other candidates” with Sumrall appearing to be the favorite in Gainesville.
Sumrall is 41-11 overall as a head coach, leading Troy to a pair of double-digit win seasons in 2022 and 2023.
