Alabama’s NFL pipeline led four-star LB Tysir Young to commit early

Tysir Young is one of the top linebacker recruits in the class of 2028.

From Middletown, Delaware, he’s being pursued by just about every big-time school out there. With over 30 offers to his name, Young could play college ball on either coast and anywhere in between.

Young wanted to take his time, too. He’s a 2028 recruit, meaning he’s just going into his junior year of high school football.

He’s got plenty of time to let the recruiting process play out, and who knows, anything can still happen. With that said, the Alabama Crimson Tide made a huge impact on Young recently.

He visited Tuscaloosa in March when he received his offer from the Tide. Since then, the Tide and linebackers coach Chuck Morrell have been all over him on the recruiting trail.

The visit plus the relationship the four-star has developed with Morrell over the past few months made Young decide to make a decision far before he ever thought he would.

He committed to Alabama over this past weekend, and the timing of it all surprised even him.

“I wasn’t planning on committing until around this time next year,” Young told Chad Simmons of Rivals. “But the Alabama visit and how they have recruited me made it happen sooner. There was really no point in waiting.”

Alabama believes it has recruited an NFL talent in four-star LB Tysir Young

According to Rivals, Young is the No. 8 linebacker recruit in his class. 247Sports has him ranked as an EDGE, but even then, he’s highly-ranked. He checks in as the No. 13 EDGE in the 2028 class.

Whether he’s off-ball banging around in the box or rushing the passer coming off the edges, the Tide think highly of Young. They think he has NFL potential and they know they can develop it. In fact, Morrell has been comparing Young to Jihaad Campbell, who went No. 31 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“They’ve got a pipeline of putting linebackers in the NFL,” Young said. “Coach Chuck talked to me a lot about Jihaad Campbell because he thinks our games compare. Their development was another big thing for me.”

Young joins a 2028 Alabama class that currently looks elite and is ranked No. 1 in the nation. Time may change that ranking, but the Crimson Tide are off to a hot start in 2028.
