As Texas Tech gets set to play Oregon in the College Football Playoff, Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton provided an important update on his lower-leg injury he’s been dealing with all season.
Morton noted to the media on Tuesday ahead of the game on Thursday that during the Big 12 Championship Game vs. BYU, his leg was at about 70%. He also shared that his injury has been a hairline fracture in his fibula. However, the quarterback went on to note, “It’s been great getting these 20-something days that we got. But I’m feeling closer to 80-85%. … As close as I want to be for sure. Not 100%, but it’s a closer percent to 100% though.”
That’s a huge step in the right direction for Morton and this Texas Tech offense, that even with an injured Morton for most of the season, has been one of the best in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech ranked third in passing offense, second in rushing offense, and first in total offense this season, while ranking first in scoring offense at over 42 points per game this season.
On the season, Morton has thrown for 2,643 yards, with 22 touchdowns to six interceptions. In the Big 12 Championship Game vs. BYU, Morton finished 20/33 for 215 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions.

Texas Tech vs. Oregon Information
Texas Tech will face the Oregon Ducks in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, January 1st, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN from Miami Gardens, Florida. The No. 4 Red Raiders went 12-1 in the Big 12 this season, winning the conference, while the Ducks are 12-1, fresh off a win over James Madison in the CFP first round, and are currently ranked No. 5 in the country. The Ducks are 2.5-point favorites coming into the game, with the over-under set at 52.5 total points.
This is Texas Tech’s first trip to the College Football Playoff, while Oregon was the No. 1 seed last year, but lost in the quarterfinals round to No. 8 Ohio State.
