The Utah State Aggies announced Monday that linebacker Bobby Wagner will have his No. 9 jersey retired during a halftime ceremony in either the 2026 or 2027 season, with the exact date depending on his availability. The honor will make Wagner just the third player in program history to have his number retired, joining Merlin Olsen (No. 71) and Elmer “Bear” Ward (No. 35).

Wagner was selected 47th overall in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and has played a 14-year professional career, primarily with Seattle. He is a six-time First-Team All-Pro, five-time Second-Team All-Pro, and a 10-time Pro Bowl selection. He was also named to the NFL All-Decade Team for 2010-2020 and played a key role in Seattle’s Super Bowl XLVIII championship, with the franchise reaching back-to-back Super Bowl appearances during his tenure.

His 2,000 career tackles rank third in NFL history, and he is just 60 tackles shy of the all-timed. Wagner is currently a free agent after spending the past two seasons on one-year contracts with the Washington Commanders. In 2025, he recorded 162 tackles, including 79 solo stops, along with 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, and four passes defended, and earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 990.3 with only eight missed tackles.

At Utah State, Wagner started 46 of 48 games and finished with 446 career tackles, tied for the most in school history. His collegiate production also included 29.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and 23 games with double-digit tackles.

Wagner was a three-time First-Team All-Western Athletic Conference honoree and led the Aggies in tackles for three seasons, amassing 147 tackles in 2011, 133 in 2010, and 115 as a sophomore. He was named MVP and North Team Most Outstanding Player at the 2012 Senior Bowl and was inducted into the Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.

Off the field, Wagner won the Art Rooney Award in 2023, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2025, and is a minority owner of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.
