The NCAA football world was rocked when it was recently announced via a court ruling that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby would be eligible to play in 2026. Sorsby has been at the center of a gambling investigation. Due to that court ruling, schools including Georgia announced they would not schedule Texas Tech in any sports.

The Bulldogs athletic director Josh Brooks is stating his true feelings on the situation.

“Let me just say this: I’ve got nothing against the young man (Sorsby), I’ve got nothing against Texas Tech. But we’ve got to stand our ground for something right now,” Brooks said on the See Ball Get Ball podcast, and reported by On3. “… We can’t just have things going court-to-court, state-to-state, county-to-county and playing by different rules. We’ve got to agree to play under one set of rules.

“For me, it’s an important time to take a stand for that and find a pathway forward, because this isn’t going to work.”

Sorsby admitted to placing bets on his own team’s games, which is not allowed by the NCAA. This court ruling was met with backlash from the NCAA.

Texas Tech faces possible backlash from the Big 12 for the Brendan Sorsby ruling

Texas Tech is a member of the Big 12 Conference. Even some Big 12 schools are hesitant to now play their league rival, due to the situation.

“The ramifications of today’s ruling are significant and could have broad impacts across college athletics, creating great concern amongst our membership,” league commissioner Brett Yormark told ESPN. “I’ve been consulting with our key stakeholders and have scheduled meetings with our conference ADs and executive board this week. We are also in touch with [NCAA president] Charlie Baker and anticipate the NCAA to appeal the order in the next 24-48 hours. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation.”

Time will tell if Sorsby is able to actually play in 2026, due to the fallout.
