Brendan Sorsby’s Pathetic Excuse to Try and Play in 2026

So Brendan Sorsby wants to play for Texas Tech in 2026. I get it. He wants to make a reported $5 million. Only in America would his skillset translate to that kind of coin. God Bless America. But Sorsby is alleged to have bet on games going back in 2022 on the Indiana Hoosiers when he was a member of the team, albeit one who didn’t play in any of the games he was alleged to have bet on. And his bets also included other games and sports he had no participation in. But as Sorsby tries to get a judge to allow him to play this fall by granting him an injunction, his excuses are completely inexcusable, and if I was the judge, I’d laugh him out of the courtroom.

Two Excuses from Sorsby’s Legal Team

Sorsby is requesting that a judge grant an injunction so he can play the 2026 season. The filing states Sorsby suffers from a “clinically diagnosed” gambling disorder, which is “a mental health condition.”

You have got to be kidding me! So now, the insinuation is that one can break the rules due to a “mental health condition”? I know we’ve gone soft societally in this country, but this is next level. If Sorsby wants to make the case that the NCAA is hypocritical in how it treats sports gambling, while profiting off of its legal existence, I can understand that. And that appears to be part of the argument. “The NCAA has weaponized his condition to shore up a facade of competitive integrity, while simultaneously profiting from the very gambling ecosystem it polices,” the court filing also states. That’s a better argument.

Sorsby also tried to explain why he made the bets on Indiana when he was a member of the program in 2022. “I rationalized placing those bets as a way to feel more connected to the team, to root for my friends, and to feel like I had a real ‘stake’ in the games that I otherwise was not involved in.”

Once again, You have got to be kidding me! This reads like parody, but it’s not! Yes, it’s real. I checked multiple times to make sure I wasn’t being had. How can you not just shake your head at this? It’s like telling your wife you went to a strip club to get a better understanding of the female body.

Sorsby’s Timeline

Sorsby is suing the NCAA in Lubbock District Court and attorneys representing Sorsby notified the NCAA requesting an expedited resolution to reinstate his eligibility over sports gambling allegations and informing the association that a legal challenge is imminent. The NCAA said in a statement it has not received a reinstatement request yet for Brendan Sorsby’s case.

Sorsby has been in a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction since April. Sorsby allegedly placed more than 10,000 wagers dating back to 2022, per On3.

If Sorsby decides to enter the NFL supplemental draft, paperwork is due June 22, which is why he is pushing for a judge to make a ruling. I know what my ruling would be, but I’m not donning black and white robes for a reason.
