Colorado has a QB controversy and Shedeur Sanders loves it

The fact that the Colorado Buffaloes beat new FBS member Delaware on Saturday in Boulder isn’t a surprise. How the Buffs won, however, was a bit of a head-scratcher and could provide some drama for Deion Sanders to deal with moving forward.

Third-string quarterback Ryan Staub threw a pair of touchdown passes on his way to a 7-for-10 performance to pace Colorado to a 31-7 victory. After fellow quarterbacks Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis couldn’t get Colorado going, Staub entered the game and kickstarted what had been a dormant offense.

The big day for Staub was a validation of his willingness to stay through all of the changes seen in Boulder under Sanders. He is the only member of the 2022 Colorado recruiting class who is still a part of the team, and that experience came through in a big way for Sanders and the Buffs on Saturday.

Colorado added weapons in the offseason at quarterback, bringing in Salter as a transfer from Liberty and landing Lewis, one of the most sought-after quarterback prospects in the country. However, Staub could be in line for more playing time as Sanders will have to figure out who can direct Colorado’s offense in the most effective manner.

That could well be Staub, who showed his skills on the opening drive of the second half, finding Sincere Brown for a 71-yard score that ignited the crowd in Boulder.

However, it was a familiar celebration that drew plenty of attention after the play.
