Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have wasted no time in replacing now-former defensive coordinator Robert Livingston.
The Denver Broncos recently poached Livingston to be their new pass game coordinator. He had been with Colorado since 2024, though before that, he was the secondary coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Sanders looked within the program to quickly find Livingston’s replacement, and now it has come out that linebackers coach Chris Marve is expected to be promoted.
Marve, 36, will be a defensive coordinator for the second time in his up-and-coming coaching career.
Marve is a former star linebacker himself, so Sanders (well-known for his superstar ability on the field) is undoubtedly hoping that his new defensive coordinator will be able to easily relate to the players on defense.
Chris Marve has a strong resume as a defensive coach
A linebacker for the Vanderbilt Commodores from 2007-11, Marve was a freshman All-American in 2008 and a three-time second-team All-SEC player (2009-11).
He got into coaching at Vanderbilt as a quality control coach and graduate assistant, and he’s developed a solid reputation coaching linebackers and defense in general over the past few seasons.
He coached inside linebackers at Vanderbilt from 2016-18, was the defensive run game coordinator and linebackers coach at Mississippi State in 2019, coached linebackers at Florida State in 2020 and 2021 and was the defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach at Virginia Tech from 2022-24.
That’s a strong resume, and again, Marve is only 36 years old. He’s undoubtedly a name to watch in the college coaching ranks moving forward, especially if he can make a splash with Coach Prime in Boulder.
