Deion Sanders isn’t trying to impress anyone with coach-speak. After a couple of rough weeks in Boulder, Coach Prime made it clear what kind of players he’s still trying to bring into the fold.
“If you a dawg, you wanna come here and right the wrong. If you a cat, you look at the scoreboard and run. Which one are you?”
That’s what Sanders is telling recruits right now. No sugarcoating. No fluff. Just a direct line about who’s built to fix what’s broken and who’s not. And in a weird way, it might be the most honest recruiting pitch anyone’s giving in this cycle.
Colorado’s season hasn’t gone the way the hype train promised, and Sanders knows it. But instead of running from it or spinning it into some PR recovery statement, he’s using it to filter his future roster. You can either show up and do something about it, or go somewhere safe and stack meaningless stats.
It’s not about the last game or the next opponent. It’s about how you react when things go sideways. Colorado was never looking for a shortcut. Everyone outside the building knew that. But what Prime is doing here is setting the tone for who he wants in the room moving forward.
This isn’t a rally-the-troops speech. This is him asking recruits straight up if they’ve got the stomach for the work. Because next year, when the Buffs settle into life in Year Three of the Coach Prime era, there’s not going to be a grace period. You’re either helping turn the thing around or you’re wasting a spot on the depth chart.
And yeah, it’s a line that’ll get clipped for social media and turned into a hundred bad quote graphics. But the message itself is dead-on. If you’re scared of a challenge, go somewhere else. If you’re built for more than just hype clips and NIL perks, Sanders has a locker for you.
