Auburn football enters Week 7 with a 3-2 record and is still on pace to earn a bowl bid by needing just three more wins to accomplish the goal.
Following its first bye week of the season, Auburn is slated to face the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs for a night game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. A loss would slightly alter their bowl outlook, while a win could boost their stock and make them attractive to bowl representatives, especially those in warmer destinations around New Year’s Day. This week’s outlook features several Big 12 teams as a best-case scenario, while others expect Auburn to meet a top team from the American Athletic Conference.
Here is a look at Auburn’s latest bowl predictions from national experts ahead of Week 7’s action across college football.
USA TODAY Sports
USA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith stays firm in his prediction from last week by pitting Auburn against TCU in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2 in Memphis, Tennessee. The Horned Frogs are 4-1 entering Week 7, with their only blemish being a three-point loss to Arizona State on Sept. 27. The Horned Frogs own impressive wins over SMU, Colorado, and North Carolina, and will look to take down Kansas State on Saturday.
ESPN
The duo of Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach joins USA TODAY’s Erick Smith in predicting a Liberty Bowl outing for the Auburn Tigers. Last week, Bonagura predicted that Auburn would meet Cincinnati in the bowl game and is sticking to his prediction ahead of Week 7. However, Schlabach joins Bonagura this week in predicting Auburn to play in the Liberty Bowl, but against Iowa State.
Athlon Sports
The trend of pairing Auburn with Big 12 teams in bowl season continues with Athlon Sports. This week, Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports predicts a Lone Star postseason for the Tigers, meeting TCU in the Texas Bowl. It would be the first time in Auburn’s history that they have played in the Texas Bowl, should this prediction come true.
On3
Like last week, On3’s Brett McMurphy is forecasting Auburn to meet Louisville in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 27 in Jacksonville, Florida. Auburn has appeared in the Gator Bowl six times in its history, tying the Peach Bowl and Sugar Bowl for the most appearances.
Pro Football Network
Pro Football Network still believes that Auburn is heading to a Birmingham Bowl fate this postseason, facing one of the top Group of Five programs in the country. Last week, Pro Football Network forecasted Auburn to meet North Texas. However, with the Mean Green entering Week 7 with an unbeaten record, Pro Football Focus has upgraded its projection to the Military Bowl against Florida State and has replaced them with Tulane.
College Football News
Although Pro Football Network has shifted gears in projecting Auburn to play North Texas in the Birmingham Bowl, College Football News has not. For the second week in a row, College Football News forecasts Auburn to face North Texas at Protective Stadium on Dec. 29. The Mean Green will face USF on Friday, which could drastically alter their bowl projections for better or worse.
