If there is one thing I hate doing as someone who writes for a living, it’s writing about the same thing over and over again. That’s exactly what I feel like I have been doing over the last two months when it comes to Brendan Sorsby.

Whether it’s here or on my podcast on Iowa Everywhere, it’s been eight weeks full of Brendan Sorsby. I don’t even know the man personally, but I can’t even talk to people I like for that long, let alone him.

After the news broke back in April, I thought he was done. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad that Texas Tech got him the help he needed, but I never thought he would touch a college football field again.

Little did I know that the next six weeks after that would turn into absolute chaos. The NCAA denied his appeal, but thanks to a Texas judge, he was back in. And if you have listened to or read anything I have said regarding Sorsby, then you know my stance. Any person who got caught gambling like that shouldn’t be playing. He crossed lines that can’t be crossed, and it’s as simple as that.

I just wish he had been caught sooner, which also makes me wonder if Indiana or Cincinnati knew about this, but that’s a whole different conversation. As much as I didn’t like how Texas Tech handled this situation, outside of getting him help, I get why they wanted him to play. If I was paying millions of dollars for one guy, I would do everything I could to get him on the field. Plus, other schools would have likely gone to the same lengths they did, and maybe even more.

Eventually, Tech and Brendan Sorsby decided to go their separate ways. Was it the potential lawsuits they were going to face? Or was it the backlash Tech received? Who knows, but I do know that was the best move for both parties.

Of course, with the 2026 NFL Draft over, Sorsby’s only option was to try to get into the NFL Supplemental Draft. But then the NFL said no, as did the Canadian Football League, which says a lot when both pro leagues don’t want you at the moment.

When that happened, I immediately thought he was going to try to sue his way back to play college football again. But instead, he recently decided to just wait until next year to enter his name in the NFL Draft.

To me, that is the best thing he has done since the news about him broke. Instead of making headlines every single week, he is going to hopefully lay low and just try to get better each day, both mentally and physically.

As much as I hated talking about Brendan Sorsby, I am glad that we can finally close the book on his college career. For a while there, I didn’t think it would ever end, but thankfully it did.

Once again, I am glad he got the help he needed and continues to get it, but I didn’t want to see him playing college football again after all that happened. I don’t hate him or have anything against him. He made a mistake, and he’s paying for it, and I truly wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
