The Florida Gators are entering their first season under new head coach Jon Sumrall. Sumrall has already been active on the recruiting trail, landing multiple big-name recruits for the Gators.
Those recruits will not make an impact in the 2026 season, but the team has added a JUCO transfer they are hoping can make an immediate impact, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
Cornerback Javier Jones has committed to Florida and is expected to enroll in the university next week. He played this past season at Independence Junior College and will still have three years of eligibility left. He also had an offer from UTEP and some interest from LSU. Jones spoke about committing to Florida, according to Blake Alderman of Gators Online.
“I’ve talked to [Director of Player Personnel] Chris Prescott the most, but I just started talking to Brandon Harris like three or four days ago. Coach Harris told me that he’s been fighting to get me down here for a visit. He said they’re about work, so if I come there, be ready to work. He said he thinks I could be a good fit to the room,” Jones said.
Jones is the second late addition to Florida, joining Jaylen Jordan, who committed out of the portal from Jacksonville University. That gives Florida 20 players coming in for the class of 2026.
Jones played in ten games at Independence Community College, racking up 12 tackles and breaking up five passes in the process. Florida opens their 2026 season on September 5 against Florida Atlantic.
