In a surprising twist in the transfer portal cycle, former Kentucky wide receiver Hardley Gilmore is headed back to Lexington after previously signing with the Baylor Bears.
Gilmore will suit up for Kentucky in 2026, marking a quick turnaround after what appeared to be a key pickup for Baylor’s offense.
During the 2025 season with the Wildcats, Gilmore hauled in 28 receptions for 313 yards and one touchdown, flashing playmaking ability and developing into a reliable target in the passing game. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, his experience and familiarity with SEC-level competition made him a valuable addition to Baylor’s wide receiver room.
Now, that addition disappears.
For Baylor, the loss stings. The Bears were counting on Gilmore to provide depth and veteran stability to a receiving corps looking to replace production and improve consistency. His ability to stretch the field and contribute in rotational packages would have given Baylor another proven option on the outside.
Instead, Kentucky regains a player who already understands its system and locker room culture. In an era defined by portal movement and roster fluidity, this is another reminder that nothing is final until the player is on campus and locked in.
For Baylor, it’s back to the portal, or back to internal development, as the Bears look to fill the unexpected void at wide receiver.
