Kansas State coach Chris Klieman previews Iowa State, Ireland trip

Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman previewed the Wildcats’ Week 0 game against Iowa State, which will be played in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday.

Kansas State football running back Dylan Edwards posted a statement on social media, saying he’s received hate messages since he was injured during the first quarter of Saturday’s Week 0 loss to Iowa State in Ireland.

Edwards was injured after muffing a punt early in the Wildcats’ 24-21 loss. ESPN reported he had his left ankle wrapped before walking to the locker room. He was on the sideline with a towel over his head from the second quarter on.

The running back posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he is “disgusted and disappointed” in people who are sending him “hate messages.”

“For the doubters close to me and out of reach, I’d never be a person to quit on my teammates or do anything of that nature for attention and pride. If you truly know me, you know that I am a competitor. (sic) That loves the game of football,” Edwards wrote.

“I am truly disgusted and disappointed to the people that are sending hate messages and making fake theories about my character. I will be back. God makes no mistakes. The Rejected Will Be Respected.”

K-State coach Chris Klieman was pressed after the game about Edwards’ injury.

“I don’t know,” Klieman said. “They told me after the first couple of plays that he was no longer available.”

In Edwards’ absence, the Wildcats struggled to establish a consistent ground game, finishing with 110 yards and a touchdown. Edwards didn’t take an offensive snap, leaving running back duties to Joe Jackson, who carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards and a lost fumble.

Kansas State will return to Manhattan for a Week 1 matchup with FCS North Dakota on Saturday, Aug. 30, for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
